MUSIC MINISTRY
Music has long been a reflection of the desire to
express the myriad of emotions experienced in a lifetime. From the
depths of despair to the heights of ecstasy, musicians often
represent what mere words fail to communicate. The power of music
is undeniable. So too, the Church's liturgical year with all its
cadences and the complexity of the human spirit, is enhanced by
music. The life of the parish community is enriched, and
strengthened by the lyrical expression of heartfelt longing, deep
sorrow, indescribable joy and profound peace.
The Music Ministry of a parish is a vital part of
its life. It is the task of the Music Ministry to select music
that reflects the power of the Word and the Eucharist in the
changing seasons of the Church's year. In addition to the weekend
Masses music ministers are called upon to assist in the
celebration of the sacraments, healing services, funerals and
other special events that occur throughout the year. Participation
in this ministry requires a commitment of time and talent to meet
the growing needs of a growing parish.
From its inception, Holy Spirit Parish has had
individuals and groups come forward to share their gift of music
with the rest of the community. As a new century begins, the role
of music in the liturgical life of the parish is undiminished. It
is hoped that more of the Assembly will accept the challenge and
the privilege of participating in the Music Ministry and, in the
words of the psalmist: "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord."
