MOTHERS' GROUP 1986-2002
In the spring of 1986 Holy Spirit was blessed with
a Redemptorist Mission that lasted 5 days. On the 5t" day of the
mission - Thursday - the Mission team had a morning prayer service
for mothers only. One young mother, Fran Freiburger - approached
the Parish Team and asked if it would be possible to continue with
a Thursday morning prayer service for Moms and Tots. Thus the
Mothers' Group was born. Because Holy Spirit Church first
originated out of St. Benedict School the only facilities the
ladies had for their service was the portable or the trailer
housed on that site. Many different formats were tried before
settling on the one that is still used today. The Mothers gather
for a prayer and communion service that involves participation of
all attending including the little ones. Young children need to
see their mothers pray as well as learn how to pray themselves.
The moms gather as women of faith to praise God, to give Him
thanks, to ask for His forgiveness, to listen to His Word, to
place their petitions before Him, to share in His meal and to
leave each Thursday with new friends and a sense of belonging,
knowing everything they do is for the honour and glory of God.
