FUNERAL RECEPTION TEAM
Anna Glynn writes "After the unexpected death of my
mother, who was buried from St. Pius X Church, I was approached by
St. Rita's Ladies' at St. Pius offering to look after a reception
following my mother's funeral. I was surprised there were no costs
involved, only a donation.
This very generous outreach so overwhelmed me that
I asked to start such a group in my own parish. With Father's
Joe's approval and Judy Look's help, the Funeral Reception Team was
started in 1985. It was a difficult beginning in the `old church'
with no facilities or supplies, but with the help of our very
generous parishioners we managed to pull it off.
This has become one of the most helpful ministries
for families at a time when they are most in need. Judy Carr and
Beverly Miele have taken on this ministry with the help of many,
and, when Joan Bath phones, parishioners seldom turn down a
request for loaf of sandwiches or plate of goodies for a funeral
reception. Just goes to show, there are generous people in every
parish, especially our own."
