THE MINISTRY OF ALTAR SERVER

Here at Holy Spirit Parish, boys and girls grade 3 and up are invited to serve at the altar of the Lord. Training sessions are held in the fall on three consecutive Saturday mornings. The final session includes a commissioning by our pastor. Parents and other family members are welcome to attend this celebration, as well as the reception following. During the training sessions we stress and encourage:

Altar servers have the opportunity to participate in special events throughout the year. Upon completion of the training sessions in the fall, new servers, helpers and their families are invited to attend a commissioning service and blessing followed by a reception. In December, all servers are treated to a pizza lunch, followed by games and prizes at their annual Advent Party. Twice a year, in May and in October, servers take part in a beautiful evening of prayer, the Living Rosary in honor of Our Blessed Mother, Mary. On the first Saturday of November and February through June, servers can come to the church and learn how to make their own Rosary and also rosaries to send to the missions and to give to the First Communion Children of our Parish.
